# Washing Instructions for Mellanni Sheets & Bedding

> Learn how to properly wash, dry, treat stains, and store your Mellanni microfiber sheets and bedding to keep them soft, bright, and long-lasting.

Caring for your Mellanni sheets is straightforward, and with the right routine you will keep them soft, bright, and in great shape for years. Microfiber has a few quirks worth knowing — it attracts lint from other fabrics, and high heat can permanently damage the fibers — but follow the steps below and your sheets will actually get softer with every wash.

<Tip>
  Wash your sheets before using them for the first time. This removes any residual manufacturing finishes and gives you the softest first-night feel.
</Tip>

<Warning>
  Never use bleach on Mellanni sheets — it weakens and discolors microfiber fibers. Avoid high heat in the dryer for the same reason: high temperatures break down the fibers and shorten the life of your bedding. Always use low or medium heat.
</Warning>

## Wash cycle

<Steps>
  <Step title="Sort your laundry">
    Wash your Mellanni sheets separately from other fabrics, or with similar microfiber items. Microfiber attracts lint from cotton towels, fleece, and other textiles, and washing them together leaves lint on your sheets.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Load the machine">
    Place the sheets loosely in the drum. Avoid overpacking — sheets need room to move so water and detergent can rinse through completely.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select cold water">
    Set your machine to a cold water cycle. Cold water cleans effectively, protects the fibers, and helps colors stay vibrant. Hot water can set stains and degrade microfiber over time.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add detergent — no fabric softener">
    Use a standard laundry detergent. Do not add fabric softener. On microfiber, softener coats the fibers and reduces their moisture-wicking performance; over time it also makes the fabric feel less soft, not more.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Run the cycle">
    Use a regular or gentle cycle. Wash with like colors to avoid dye transfer.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Tumble dry on low">
    Transfer to the dryer and set it to low heat. Mellanni microfiber dries significantly faster than cotton, so check the load earlier than you normally would. Remove promptly when dry.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Stain treatment

Treat stains as soon as they happen — the faster you act, the easier the stain is to remove. Blot (do not rub) the stain with cold water and a small amount of detergent. Avoid hot water, which can set protein-based stains like blood or sweat permanently into the fabric.

## Storage

Store your sheets clean and fully dry in a cool, dry place. Storing them while even slightly damp can lead to mildew. The zippered bag included with your Mellanni set works well for keeping a spare set organized and dust-free.

<Note>
  Do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets on microfiber. Softeners leave a coating on the fibers that reduces their moisture-wicking properties and, despite the name, makes the fabric feel less soft over repeated washes.
</Note>
